FAQ’s for Proposed Eagle Landing Fire House
Will the city annex us?
No. To be annexed Eagle Landing has to ask for annexation. To be annexed the city has to have at least 1000 residents (they have less than 500), and provide us with sewers or water which they cannot do. In fact, having the firehouse will actually help us should an annexation issue ever arise because our ELHOA will have paid for it, not the city thereby reducing our dependence on city provided services.
Will we have to pay taxes on the fire house? No.
Who will pay the insurance on the firehouse?
Eagle Landing will self insure the firehouse. The trucks and equipment will continue to be covered under the City of Avinger.
Will there be security? There will be an alarm system on the firehouse.
Where will the firehouse be located?
Out of sight at the north end of the runway near where the trailer area is.
Will there be more traffic and noise?
No. The fire station will be “no frills” and unmanned. It will be used to store equipment and a defibrillator for emergency use. There won’t be any water or AC, or restroom facilities. The electricity expense will be minimal-enough for an alarm system and possible heating the truck engines during a cold snap.
We have now over 5 homeowner fire department volunteers living in Eagle Landing who will probably be first responders in Eagle Landing. Other firefighters will arrive for emergency purposes, then leave. It will not be a “hang-out” area. Equipment will be cleaned at the main station in Avinger. We do not expect additional noise. Right now the volunteers must travel to Avinger for the equipment and then come all the way back to Eagle Landing to service the emergency which adds precious time in your survival countdown.
When your heart stops you only have 6 minutes to live. Emergency responders will shave off valuable time to get to you by having the equipment to save your life nearby.
Currently CR 1599 is impassable for several months due to bridge construction. This means the emergency crew will have to go around on Hwy. 155 to Hwy 161 for individuals living on the northwest side of the lake which will add minutes to rescue services.
The firefighters and first responders are fine, upstanding Avinger people who hold full-time jobs and who care enough about you to spend their free hours training to save you and your property, with no compensation of any kind. You can trust them with your life!
What about liability should a firefighter become injured?
All firefighters are covered under the City’s Workers Compensation policy.
Can we afford it?
Yes! How much is saving your life worth to you? Eagle Landing HOA has at least 3 times more funds than the cost of the firehouse will require. Why not allow all residents to have the peace of mind knowing help will be on the way quickly?
A bonus is that the firehouse will assist in lowering our homeowner’s insurance rates.
We can’t afford not to have this!
