Firewise Communities USA
Eagle Landing has received the distinction of becoming one of only 465 communities nationally as a FireWise Community.
Through the hard work of Eagle Landing residents, Trent Gale, Van Templeton, and Jim Trimble, and many other volunteers over the past few years we have demonstrated to the Texas Forest Service that we understand the need to be proactive in wildland fire protection (mitigation). Firewise Communities/USA is a project of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group's Wildland/Urban Interface Working Team and is the newest element of the Firewise program. It provides citizens with the knowledge necessary to maintain an acceptable level of fire readiness, while ensuring firefighters that they can use equipment more efficiently during a wildland fire emergency. The program draws on a community's spirit, its resolve, and its willingness to take responsibility for its ignition potential. Recently, our 5 year Firewise certificate was renewed.
These activities resulted in a lower Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of 6/9 for our community. This means that many of you will receive the benefit of lower homeowner insurance premiums if you mention this rating to your insurance company.
